Following the deadly violence in Charlottesville, social media leaders are banning some hate groups and their messages from platforms. Facebook, GoDaddy and Discord are shutting down hate groups, preventing them from spreading their content. Lynn Pinker Hurst & Schwegmann constitutional law attorney David Coale says those recent moves are not against the law because hate speech is protected under the First Amendment and applies to government action not private companies.
