Tuesday’s announcement by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of an impeachment inquiry against President Trump was followed by the establishment of six House committee investigations. The announcement followed a whistleblower complaint over a phone call between President Trump and the Ukraine president, where Trump reportedly asked for help to “look into” the actions of former Vice President Joe Biden and his son. The White House released an unredacted transcript of the call Wednesday.
Constitutional lawyer David Coale of Lynn Pinker Hurst & Schwegmann told KTVT CBS Dallas that he believes one of the committees will eventually develop political, rather than criminal charges, which could be considered by the House.
“The committee would come down with a handful of specific articles that it believes should be presented to the Senate for trial and then present those to the full House for an up/down vote by a majority.”
