David Coale Discusses Midterm Election Changes to the Texas Appellate Courts

The November 6 midterm elections brought change to Texas appellate courts with the biggest hitting the Fifth Court of Appeals in Dallas. The court has held Republican control since the 80s, yet the midterm elections spawned eight new Democratic judges.  The firm’s David Coale spoke to media outlets Texas Lawbook, Dallas Business Journal, Texas Lawyer and the Texas Tribune about the changes. Regarding the Fifth Court of Appeals: “It will take some time for the impact to fully sink in, but for business cases this change can be expected to significantly affect the review of jury verdicts from Dallas and surrounding counties, the enforcement of arbitration agreements, and the availability of summary judgment,” Coale said.
